Baba Deep Singh Ji joined the Khalsa army under Guru Gobind Singh Ji and fought in several battles against the Mughal forces and Afghan invaders. He became the leader of the Shaheed Misl, one of the twelve Sikh Misls (military groups) that defended Punjab during the 18th century.

5. Battle of Amritsar (1757)

His most iconic battle took place in 1757. After learning that the Golden Temple had been desecrated by the Afghan invader Ahmad Shah Abdali’s forces, Baba Deep Singh Ji took a vow to liberate it. Despite being gravely wounded in battle, he continued to fight while holding his severed head in one hand and his sword in the other, reaching the sacred precincts before attaining martyrdom.
